Description
Engraving taken from the Illustrated London News, 5 December 1874. The illustration shows the various stages of the biscuit making proces at Peek, Frean and Co's factory in London. The proces begins at top left with the dough being mixed in mixing tubs. it is then procesed before being cut into shape and baked in the ovens. The proces ends at bottom right with women packing the finished biscuits into tins. The factory was based in Bermondsey in London SE1 which had become famous as a centre for food importing and procesing as well as production because of its proximity to London's docks.
