Description
Soldier washing, France, 1914-1918. Thousands of soldiers carried autographic cameras, resulting in a wealth of vignettes of barrack life. In the trenches of France during World War One (1914- 1918), even ablutions like these existed only in memory and in photographs for the average enlisted infantryman.
