Description
Oil painting by Alexander Craig, 1856, after an original painting by Sir Anthony Van Dyck, c 1640. Edward Somerset, second Marquis of Worcester (1601-1667), was an English aristocrat who invented the steam-operated pump for raising water. He also fought in the English Civil War (1642-1649) on the side of the Royalists.
