Description
Roger Bannister during his succesful four-minute mile record attempt, 6 May 1954. Roger Bannister (1929-) ran the first sub-four-minute mile on 6 May 1954, by clocking a time of 3 minutes 59.4 seconds during the match between Oxford University and the AAA (Amateur Athletics Asociation) at Iffley Road track, Oxford. Bannister was a medical student at Oxford at the time. He later became a neurosurgeon and was appointed master of Pembroke College, Oxford in 1985.
