Reverse of a bronze medal commemorating the increase in obstetrical skills pioneered by C T Vermont. Vermont was patronised by Queen Marie Antoinette of France (1755-1793), consort of Louis XVI, King of France. During the 18th century doctors took an increasing interest in obstetrics, and a few made special studies of the foetus and the proces of birth. The medal was made in France and features artwork by Pierre Simon Benjamin Duvivier.
