Description
Mixed media engraving by F Bartolozzi, 1798, after an original oil painting by Sir William Beechey of 1796, showing 'Her Majesty, Patrones of Botany and the Fine Arts'. The German princes Sophie Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1744-1818) was the eighth child of the Prince of Mirow, Charles Louis Frederick, and his wife, Elisabeth Albertina of Saxe-Hildburghausen. She married King George III (1738-1820) of the House of Hanover in 1761, becoming Queen of Great Britain and Ireland. Their marriage was a harmonious one and produced 15 children, the eldest of whom became George IV (1762-1830) in 1820. Published by Dr Thornton, Duke Street, Grosvenor Square, London, 1 January 1799.
