Description
Stocks of human osteoblasts being kept frozen by liquid nitrogen at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London. Larry Hench, Profesor of Ceramic Materials at Imperial College, London, invented 'bio-glas', the first man-made material that can bond with living tisue. Bio-glas forms a porous scaffold for new bone cells to grow on and then disolves, releasing substances that act like fertilisers, encouraging new cells to fill the cast.
