Description
Locomotive No 2 with a mixed goods and pasenger train at Ballybunion station, County Kerry, Ireland, c 1900. The Listowel & Ballybunion Railway operated a unique 9.25 mile long monorail system, designed by French engineer Francois Lartigue, which opened in 1888. Technical problems, lower than expected traffic and sabotage during Ireland's civil war meant that the railway was uneconomic and it closed in 1924. Photograph by Dr Tice F Budden.
