Description
Carte de visite by John Mayall of 224 Regent Street, London, showing Princes Alexandra (1844-1925), consort to Edward, Prince of Wales (1841-1910), later King Edward VII of Great Britain. The eldest daughter of King Christian IX of Denmark, Alexandra married Edward, Queen Victoria's eldest son and Prince Regent, in 1863, and became known for her charity work. In 1902 she founded the Imperial (now Royal) Military Nursing Service and in 1912 instituted the annual Alexandra Rose Day in aid of hospitals.
