* size varies depending on the aspect ratio of the image. If an image has say an aspect ratio of 4:3 (width to height) and you wanted to buy a 1.00m x *m sized canvas, then the image size on the canvas would be 1.00m wide by 0.75m high.

Because the Science & Society Picture Library print uses the latest print-on-demand digital technology, all the images you see on this site are always available at the sizes displayed on the Choose a Product screen. It is possible that some images may not be available at the normal range of print sizes (for example if the original is very small it may not be possible to produce a high quality reproduction at a large size). Where this is the case the available sizes will be displayed on the Choose a Product screen.
The original images available from this collection come in all shapes and sizes. When you choose a particular satin, gloss or watercolour print size, say A2 (420mm x 594mm), the original image will be scaled to fit within an A2 (420mm x 594mm) print without cropping or otherwise distorting the picture. This gives you the most faithful reproduction but it means that different pictures will have different amounts of border or white space around the edges.
This effect is shown on the Choose a Product screen which gives an accurate portrayal of how the image will fit on different print sizes. You may decide to choose a particular print size because the image selected fits well at that size.
When ordering canvas prints, we offer sizes in 0.25m increments, starting at 0.5m (these increments being the length of the longest side of the image). Depending on the aspect ratio of the image our system calculates and displays the dimension of the shorter side (*m above).
Rolled canvas prints are shipped with a 75mm white space around the image to enable you to get it stretched properly. The largest rolled canvas print we currently produce is 1.25m x 0.95m.
Stretched canvas prints are shipped using 35mm stretcher bars. The image is not wrapped around the edge of the stretcher bars, and the larger sizes have a crossbar. The largest stretched canvas print we currently produce is 1.25m x 1.00m
If for some unforeseen reason a particular order cannot be fulfilled you will be contacted by Customer Services and a full refund issued.
