Description

Engraving from the 'Illustrated London News' showing Prince Albert (1819-1861) during the opening of the Royal Museum at King's College, London on 1 July 1843. 'The whole party then left the interior of the college and moved to the terrace in front of Somerset House where his Royal Highnes inspected the working of Profesor Wheatstone's electro-magnetic telegraph; the wires of communication being laid from thence acros Waterloo Bridge to the summit of the lofty shot-tower in Lambeth.'
