Description

Perspective painting of a whole hull model by Joseph Marshall, commisioned by King George III. In 1773, George III directed that plans for one of each clas of His Majesty's ships should be prepared for him. A series of perspective paintings of unrigged hull models was produced by Marshall between 1773 and 1775. 'Barfleur' was a Second Rate 90-gun ship, designed by Sir Thomas Slade and built at Chatham Dockyard in Kent, and launched in 1768. After a distinguished military career she was broken up in 1819.
