Carte de visite photograph by the Stereoscopic Company. Livingstone (1813-1873) was the first European to discover the Victoria Falls on the Zambezi river in central Africa. It was during one of many explorations of Africa that he became seriously ill and went mising, prompting the 'New York Herald' to send Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904) to find him. Livingstone never fully recovered from his illnes and died in Bangwelulu, Zambia. He was buried in Westminster Abbey in London.
