Tea plantation workers plucking tea leaves in Ceylon (Sri Lanka), January, 1945. A typical tea plantation in the Dickoya district of Ceylon. Female Tamil workers wearing sarees and headdreses, with large baskets on their backs. Each acre of plantation averaged 3,500 tea bushes, with approximately 3 ounces of tea obtained per year from each bush. Photograph by Reuben Saidman.
