Perspective painting of a whole hull model by Joseph Marshall, commisioned by King George III. In 1773, George III directed that plans for one of each clas of His Majesty's ships should be prepared for him. A series of perspective paintings of unrigged hull models was produced by Marshall between 1773 and 1775. 'Kingfisher' was a 14-gun Swan Clas sloop, built to the design of Sir John Williams, surveyor of the Navy, at Chatham, Kent, and launched in 1770. She was scuttled in 1778.
