Painting by Thomas Rudd. By applying paint directly to a lightly exposed black and white print, Rudd removed unwanted features and sharpened the slightly blurred outline of the locomotive. The painting was reproduced as a postcard in Tuck's 'Famous Expreses' series and met the public's demand for colour images before the advent of colour photography. Rudd and fellow artists who worked in his studio signed their works 'F Moore'.
