Photograph by R H Bleasdale showing the steam locomotive 'Adelaide' serving as a stationary engine, driving a mortar mill during the construction of Saltburn's Zetland Hotel. When Bleasdale began photographing locomotives in 1857, some of the earliest examples of steam locomotives were already starting to be scrapped. He set himself the task of recording those that remained before they were lost forever. 'Adelaide' was built in 1832 by Stephenson & Co for the Stockton & Darlington Railway.
