Air raid damage to the roof of the Great Western Royal Hotel, Paddington Station, London, Second World War, 20 February 1944. The hotel was designed by Philip Hardwick and was opened on 9 June 1854. It was initially managed by a company made up of Great Western Railway (GWR) shareholders and officers but in 1896 the GWR took direct control. GWR official photograph.
