Description

One of a series of postcards showing injured soldiers at Queen Mary's Orthopaedic Hospital, Roehampton, London, members of the Essex Regiment and other medical images. Roehampton was a specialised orthopaedic hospital established during World War I, mainly devoted to the fitting of artificial limbs to soldiers wounded in action. A total of 1.6 million British servicemen were wounded in the course of the First World War.
