Photograph by Maurice Earley showing the 'Princes Margaret Rose', steam locomotive No 6203, on the West Coast Main Line, Lune Gorge, Westmoreland (now Cumbria), 29 July 1936. This London Midland & Scottish (LMS) 'Princes Royal' clas locomotive is picking up water from Dillicar troughs (or water troughs) after climbing up to Shap summit with the southbound 'Mid-day Scot'. Water troughs were installed at various locations so that locomotives could pick up water without stopping.
