Lithograph, printed by Maclure and Macdonald of Glasgow and London, published by Thomas Wood Fine Arts Gallery, Darlington. In the year of this portrait, Henry Pease (1807-1881), son of Edward Pease (a founder of the Stockton & Darlington Railway Company), initiated an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the opening of the railway. Earlier, in 1861, he had developed the North Yorkshire town of Saltburn into a popular resort by extending the railway line from Redcar.
