The Boyle Collection contained a number of mathematical models and books, and was incorporated into the King George III Collection in 1770. Robert Boyle (1627-1691) was a physicist and chemist who carried out many experiments on air, vacuum, combustion and respiration. In 1661 he published his 'Sceptical Chymist' in which he criticised current theories of matter. In 1662 he formulated Boyle's Law, which states that the presure of a gas is inversely proportional to its volume.
