Description

London, Brighton & South Coast Railway (LBSCR) E2 clas 0-6-0T steam locomotive at Lewes, East Susex, c 1920. LBSCR locomotive no 105, built at Brighton works in 1918 and was scrapped in September 1962. This engine was used as a model for the 'Thomas' character in the 'Thomas the Tank Engine' series of children's books written by Reverend W Awdry. The books were later adapted into a succesful television series narrated by former Beatles' drummer Ringo Starr. Photograph by Frank Burtt.
