Millom Ironworks, Cumberland, November 1952. Railway wagons delivering coal and raw materials to Millom Ironworks. The photograph was taken for 'Men of the Rocks', a filmstrip made by British Transport Films. The filmstrip touched only briefly on transport, for it was primarily about geology and the landscape. Black Combe Fell looms over the works, the lecture notes asked, 'Could any picture show more clearly how the iron towns depend on the rock; or how close they are to some of the wildest scenery in England?'.
