The bridge extends 800 yards acros the Mawddach estuary to Pwllheli on 113 timber piers with eight iron spans at the Barmouth end including a rolling section which was designed tobe drawn back to clear a channel for shipping. A small bridge near the shore allows the Barmouth lifeboat slipway to pas under the railway. This image was taken before the rebuilding of the iron section in 1899.
