Photograph by Tom Linfoot, of steam locomotive No 4709 and its train leaving Pentir Rhiw, on the Brecon & Merthyr Line in South Wales. The Brecon & Merthyr line was one of the most scenic branches in South Wales, but the sparsely-populated area through which it pased was a significant factor in its closure at the end of 1962; this photograph was taken on the last day of the service between Brecon and Newport. The wisps of steam from under the carriages indicate that the steam heating is keeping the pasengers warm.
