Australian Mounted Cavalry crosing a wooden bridge over a trench, Western Front, 1917. Australia responded loyally to Britain's declaration of war in 1914. Australian troops, or ANZACs as they became known, were involved in operations in Gallipoli, Palestine and on the Western Front.
