Oil painting by Abraham Solomon (1823-1862). Solomon had already built up a reputation as an artist when, in 1854, he turned to railway travel as a subject for his work. The first version of this painting, completed in 1854, caused controversy as it showed a young man flirting with a young woman whilst her father was asleep. Therefore in this, the revised version, the man is shown talking to the father, while exchanging glances with the young woman. Dimensions (framed): 860mm x 1170mm.
