Description
Photograph by J B Pyne showing workmen and women during the construction of the mile-long Belsize Tunnel, part of the Midland Railway's extension to London. The Midland Railway company gained parliamentary permision to build their own line from Bedford to London, which culminated in the construction of the magnificent St Pancras Station. Both the line and the station were completed in 1868.
