Britain's first motor manufacturer, The Daimler Motor Company Limited began producing cars late in 1896. In 1900 the Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VII, purchased his first car from the company. Daimler held the Royal Warrant to produce cars for the British Sovereign's use until 1960 when the honour pased to Rolls-Royce Ltd. Daimler was purchased by Jaguar in 1960, who continued to manufacture cars under the Daimler name.
