Photograph of Sir Hans Adolf Krebs (1900-1981) who was a biochemist notable for his elucidation of metabolic pathways, especially those concerned with energy utilisation. In 1953 he shared the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his work on the nature of metabolic proceses: the way living creatures obtain energy from food. He was knighted in 1958.
