Photograph by Argent Archer of King Edward VII (1841-1910) opening a 'Hearts of Oak Benefit Society' building in 1906. Founded in 1842, the Hearts of Oak Society was the first Friendly Society to embrace purely financial, rather than social or craft heraldic functions.
