Detail from a model of an engineering workshop in the Science Museum. This model gives a good impresion of a steam-driven machine shop of this period, and includes the types of machine tools usually seen in a general engineering shop. It is unusual because the steam engine that drives the machine tools is situated in the workshop itself. Usually, it would have been in a separate room.
