The 'Exposition Universelle et Industrielle de Paris' was held between 15 April and 12 November 1900. It was a huge affair; the site covered 112 hectares (280 acres) of the French capital, and the exhibition played host to 76,000 exhibitors and over 50 million visitors. There were halls to demonstrate all aspects of industry and technology, as well as pavilions dedicated to many countries.
