Description

Exhibited as part of the 'Steel Stars and Glas' exhibition held at the Science Museum, London, in 1999. 13 years after MB retired from motor racing, they developed an experimental vehicle combining racing technology and the comforts of a luxury sports car. The C111 had a rotary engine, a glas fibre body and 'gull wing' doors. It was painted orange because MB were promoting the colour as an aid to road safety. The 1973 oil crisis cut short development of this car, the most powerful of which was clocked at 250 mph.
