Advertisement for 'Nicholson's 1000 Guinea Fete', 1843.

A printed handbill advertising a three day fete hosted by Mr Nicholson in the grounds of Cremorne House, Kings Road, Chelsea, from 31 July to the 2 August 1843. A balloon ascent by English aeronaut Charles Green (1785-1870) is among the events planned. The text reads: 'Mr Green, the celebrated aeronaut, will ascend from the lawn in his Majestic Balloon. Taking up with him, and liberating experimentally, an extensive aerial transit ship'. Other attractions at the fete include tournaments, racing, sports, singing, dancing, music concerts, clowns and fireworks. Dimensions: 254mm x 123mm.
