Description

The Space Shuttle Discovery begins its 21st Spaceflight, taking off from the space centre in Florida, USA. Five NASA astronauts and a Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) were launched from Launch Pad 39B. On board were astronauts Terence T Hendricks, Kevin R Kregel, Nancy J Curie, Donald A Thomas and Mary Ellen Weber. The Discovery was named after one of the ships used by James Cook (1728-1779) during his voyages in the South Pacific.
