'The Duke and Duches of Windsor at Ednam Lodge, Sunningdale in Berkshire. They are in England together for the first time since 1939'. Edward VIII (1894-1972) was given the title Duke of Windsor after he abdicated in 1936 to be with Wallis Simpson. Constitutionally, he could not marry a divorcee and remain on the throne. His wife, formerly married to Ernest Simpson, was born Besie Wallis Warfield.
