Description

This two-pan balance was used for valuing coins of pure gold. A coin of unknown value is placed in one pan, and its value in other currencies can be found by balancing it against fixed weights from the box, which represent coins from other countries. This set contains weights for most gold coins in circulation at the time in Western Europe.
