'A Compleat account of the Great Eclipse of the Sun which will happen Apr 22'. Broadsheet engraving by I Senex and text by W Whiston. William Whiston, MA (1656-1752) was a clergyman and mathematician, who succeeded Sir Isaac Newton as Lucasian profesor at Cambridge in 1703. Whiston was however expelled from the university in 1710 for his belief in Arianism, a doctrine which refused to believe in the divinity of Christ.
