Description

This galley would have carried around 12 oarsmen, and been steered from the rear. The galley's speed was generated almost exclusively by its oarsmen. Like the Romans, the Greeks used slaves on such vesels. However, ships that relied on human energy were gradually replaced by those that used the wind.
