This was Arthur C Clarke's first satellite dish, a gift from the government of India and erected by their engineers. It was part of the Satellite Instructional Television Experiment (SITE) in the mid 1970s. Arthur Charles Clarke (b 1917) became a leading science fiction writer following a period of work in scientific research. He was interested in communications technology from an early age.
