Charles Stewart Rolls (1877-1910) is shown here at the Hendra, 26 December 1908. In 1906, Rolls went into partnership with Henry Royce (1863-1933), forming the motor car and engine manufacturer, Rolls-Royce. The same year Rolls crosed the English Channel by balloon, and by 1910 made the first non-stop double crosing by aeroplane. He lost his life in a plane crash soon afterwards.
