Newton's furnace, 1696-1727.

A furnace said to have been used by Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727) the great scientist and philosopher whilst he was Master of the Mint (1699-1727). It would have been used for asaying and refining precious metals and may have been used by Newton to test for counterfeit money.
