The eleven year old Battleship, first American bred horse to win the Grand National, sailed from Southampton in luxury quarters on board the liner ‘Manhattan’ on his return to America. With him went Mr Reginald Hobbs, his trainer, and Bruce Hobbs, his 17 year old jockey who rode him to victory in the race. Hobbs was the youngest jockey to win the National. Battleship is owned by Mrs Marion Scott, wife of Randolph Scott, the film actor.
