Description

Engraving by John Smeaton (1724-1792), English mechanical and civil engineer, who is perhaps best known for his lighthouse designs, especially the third Eddystone Lighthouse, off the Devon coast. He also improved Thomas Newcomen's (1663-1729) steam engine.
