Description

2-10-2 steam locomotive of the RFIRT at Rio Gallegos, Patagonia, Argentina, 1977. In the background is the jetty where coal transported from the mine at Rio Turbio is loaded onto cargo ships. The locomotives were built by the Japanese firm Mitsubishi. The RFIRT (Ramal Ferroviario Industrial Rio Turbio) was constructed in 1951 to transport coal from the mine at Rio Turbio to Rio Gallegos on the Atlantic coast, and is the southernmost railway in the world.
