The sphygmomanometer measures blood presure, it has an aneroid barometer dial showing changes in blood presure, unlike the modern ones which have a cuff and U tube. To take the maximum blood presure, it has a pelotte, or bulb which was presed onto the radial artery in the arm, until the pulse disappeared.
