Boys from Christ's Hospital School in Horsham, Sussex wait with their mothers for the train which will return them to school at the beginning of the new school term. Photograph taken at Victoria railway station in London in 1969, probably in September. Photographer Tony Ray-Jones (1941-1972) created most of his images of the British at work and leisure between 1966 and 1969. Travelling around Britain, he recorded the unguarded moments of people from all sections of British society with a distinctive and highly individual style, combining humour and sadness.
