Norris 4-2-0 'Austria' locomotive, 1843. Model (scale 1:6). Designed by William Norris of Philadelphia in 1837, this locomotive had a special four-wheeled swivelling bogie for use on lines with steep inclines and sharp curves. It was known as 'Austria', as the design was particularly suited to the Austrian terrain. In 1840 it was imported into England for the first time, and was used on the Lickey incline on the Birmingham and Gloucester Railway. Made by Phillip Wolf in 1843.
